The Blackland Prairie is home to a stunning array of native wildflowers in North Texas.

From spring through fall, this endangered ecosystem bursts with color—annual and perennial wildflowers bloom in succession, supporting a web of native pollinators.

These resilient plants are not only beautiful but uniquely adapted to the region’s clay soils and drought cycles, making them essential to restoring and preserving prairie biodiversity.

Only a small portion of the original Blackland Prairie still exists today, but you can make a difference in your yard and community by planting native species that support the insects and animals that call this unique ecosystem home.

I completed the Native Landscape Certification Program (NLCP) from the Native Plant Society of Texas in 2025.
